Bruce L. Saltz, MD
Bruce L. Saltz, MD founded Mental Health Advocates in 1992 and serves as its President, Owner and Medical Director. Based in Boca Raton, Florida, the MHA team provides clinical and research services in the field of psychiatry, psychology. Dr. Saltz is board certified in Adult Psychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry. Dr. Saltz believes that all patients deserve a chance to be well informed in their health care decision-making. When Dr. Saltz evaluates a prospective patient he attends to medication requirements, psychological needs and relevant family issues. Next, Dr. Saltz and his team propose a treatment plan, which may or may not include participation in a clinical research trial. In his current research initiatives, Dr. Saltz focuses on the use of antipsychotic drugs in a wide range of conditions from schizophrenia to bipolar disorder to Alzheimer's disease. Dr. Saltz has expertise in drug induced movement disorders such as tardive dyskinesia and parkinsonism.
Dr. Saltz frequently speaks to pharmaceutical organizations and medical groups about his research findings. Using a case approach he created a series of videotapes (available on CD-ROM or VHS) that cover indications for prescribing antipsychotic drugs and recognizing (and treating) movement disorders as side effects. The videotape series can be used for CME or CEU credit, as well as providing training for medical office staff, social workers, care givers and patients.
Beverly J. Pedroche, Psy.D.
Dr. Pedroche is a Florida licensed psychologist who received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ in 1999, her Masters of Science Degree from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL in 2004 and her Doctorate of Psychology also from Nova Southeastern University in 2007. Her graduate practica included the Adult Outpatient Program and the Trauma Resolution and Integration Program both specialty clinics at Nova Southeastern University's Community Mental Health Center. Her internship was at Broward General Medical Center where she worked with medical and psychiatric patients, many of whom suffered a trauma leading them to hospitalization. After graduating, Dr. Pedroche completed her post-doctorate at The Watershed Addiction Treatment Center in Boynton Beach, FL where she worked with adults who suffered from alcohol and/or drug dependence. Additionally, she has worked in her own private practice in Nassau, Bahamas. She has worked with individuals, families, and has experience running Dialectical Behavior Therapy groups, Chronic Relapse Groups, and supportive psychotherapy groups. Furthermore, Dr. Pedroche has authored several professional articles, numerous magazine articles for New Woman Magazine (distributed throughout the Caribbean and Canada), and presented at professional conferences including the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation. Dr. Pedroche's particular areas of interest include Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Eating Disorders, and Mood and Anxiety Disorders.
Although competent in Family Systems Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Dr. Pedroche's primary treatment approach is Rogerian in nature indicating that therapy is client-centered and non-directive. Like psychologist Carl Rogers, Dr. Pedroche feels that for a person to "grow", (s)he needs an environment that provides him/her with genuineness (openness and self-disclosure), acceptance (being seen with unconditional positive regard), and empathy (being listened to and understood).
Karolina A. Oles, M.Ed
Ms. Oles is a Mental Health Counselor with over six years of experience in South Florida. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and Fine Arts from Rutgers University focusing on Art Therapy. She completed her Master of Education Degree in Mental Health Counseling at Florida Atlantic University. While at FAU, Ms. Oles collaborated with FAU faculty in research on family cohesion and is involved with FAU faculty on trends in Aging and Family Therapy. She is currently a Registered Intern with the Florida Board of Health.
During her practicum at the Center for Group Counseling, Ms. Oles provided individual, couple, and family counseling, and led weekly counseling, psychoeducational and support groups for senior populations, women and children. While on internship at the FAU Counseling Center, she provided weekly therapy within a time-limited framework treating mental health issues including stress, depression, anxiety, grief, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, Asperger's disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, relationship problems, substance abuse, and eating disorders.
Ms. Oles was also employed with The Renfrew Center, a residential eating disorder treatment facility where she provided individual crisis counseling and facilitated groups within a residential setting for women suffering from eating disorders, and other women's issues.
Ms. Oles utilizes an eclectic approach to treatment combining Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, Existential, Psychodynamic, Adlerian, Rogerian, and Family Systems modalities. She is active in the promotion of multicultural counseling in the community and in providing lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender services. She strongly values the impact of a therapeutic relationship and collaborates with clients to meet their individual needs and desires; fostering positive changes and successful outcomes for her clients.
